I recently conducted an in-home private dog training session for a Brooklyn couple who had just adopted a Chihuahua. They were unaware of his severe leash aggression, which had already led to a dog fight during a restaurant outing in Manhattan. Compounding the issue, their Chihuahua likes to pick fights against dogs twice his size, resulting in a facial injury requiring stitches.
Our initial goal for managing his leash aggression is to establish immediate control using a command he reliably obeys. Subsequently, we will counter-condition his triggers. After a couple of weeks, we plan to introduce corrections.
